About
STORY
The origins of DiCarlo’s Pizza can be traced back to 1905 when brothers Lorenzo, Alessandro & Enrico DiCarlo left their hometown of Fontechiari, Italy, in search of a better life in America. They landed in Ellis Island, New York before eventually putting down roots in the small hardworking steel town of Steubenville, Ohio. At first, they labored as rail men but their entrepreneurial spirit soon led them to a tastier path. Alessandro opened a bakery and grocery store in Steubenville, while Lorenzo would later move in 1906 to San Pedro, California to open his own bakery called the “DiCarlo’s National Bakery”. It would become the largest independently owned baking company in the state at the time. Enrico returned to Italy while the youngest brother Michele arrived in Steubenville in 1912.
