In July, 1875 Henry Corbin opened a saloon in Westerville and the Whiskey Wars began. Bishop William Hanby had a prominent role in this anti-alcohol battle. There will be presentations at Hanby House on Saturday, August 2 at 1:30; 2:15 and 3:00 to share some of the stories of these dramatic events in our community’s history and the Hanby connection. The house will be open for tours from 1-4pm. This event is free and open to the public.

2025 marks 150 years since the beginning of the Westerville Whiskey Wars which put the community on the map of anti-alcohol “holy places”. Join us as we explore Bishop William Hanby’s action during this turbulent time for our town.
