What a show is in store for Java Central visitors Saturday evening, Aug. 16!

Byron Stripling, internationally acclaimed virtuoso jazz trumpeter and singer, will play Saturday Night Live at Java Central Aug. 16, accompanied by nationally renowned and Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Bobby Floyd.

These world class musicians will play Saturday Night Live at JC from 7-9:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Stripling, who lives in Westerville with his wife Alexis and their daughters, since 2002 has been the Artistic Director of Columbus Jazz Orchestra, and he has served as Principal Pops Conductor for the Pittsburgh Symphony since 2020.

Byron was lead trumpeter with the Count Basie Orchestra, and has toured and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Gerry Mulligan. He has also recorded with his own quintet, plus with greats such as Tony Bennett and Whitney Houston. Byron debuted at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops, and has been featured soloist at the Hollywood Bowl and with the Boston Pops and many other orchestras.

In addition, Stripling starred on Broadway as Louis Armstrong in Satchmo. His Louis Armstrong tribute remains a mainstay of his performances.

Jazz pianist Floyd has performed and toured extensively with Stripling, as well as Ray Charles, Byron Rusty Bryant, his own trio and many others.

He’s been a featured soloist with orchestras throughout the U.S. and Canada, from Vancouver to Detroit and Columbus, frequently with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, backing such artists as Chuck Mangione, Branford Marsalis, Mavis Staples and many others. His recordings have met acclaim from musicians and critics alike and he has taught at OSU, at his own studio and with the famous Jamey Aebersold Jazz Workshops
