The classic ’80s band Rockhouse will headline Uptown Westerville Inc.’s August Fourth Friday festival Aug. 22, performing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Newman Roofing Summer Concert Series in front of historic Hanby Elementary School, 56 S. State St.

Elsewhere through historic Uptown, the August Fourth Friday celebration, presented by Mount Carmel St. Ann’s, will close State Street to vehicular traffic between Walnut Street and Home Street from 6-9 p.m. And the whole district will become an entertainment and shopping destination with more than 100 street vendors, food trucks, roving entertainers and specialty interest areas.

A few of the planned Aug. 22 Fourth Friday highlights

Rockhouse

Rockhouse brings “iconic rock anthems and hair band hits” with “a show jam-packed with all of the fist-pumping, danceable rock hits from the decade that was built on hairspray and spandex,” according to the band’s website.

Rockhouse features Doug Blessing on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Gregg Pruett on bass and vocals, Kevin “Stretch” O’Connor on guitars and vocals, Bob Klein on drums and Matt “Bon Piper” Boggs on bagpipes, covering the biggest hits from bands including Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Journey, Poison, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Ratt and Kiss.

“Our goal is to transport the crowd back in time, and to get them to raise their hands in the air while they sing along to their favorite songs of the era. We are BIG on crowd participation, so EVERYBODY gets to rock right along with us!” according to the band’s site.

“We love finding ways to get the crowd involved, and keep them engaged with dazzling lights, choreography, sing-alongs, confetti cannons, and customized LED smoke geysers. It truly is a ROCK Experience!”

Pop up ‘Silly Things’

Good Medicine Productions troop members will stage pop-up performances of its latest production, 10 Silly Things in 20 Silly Minutes, near the large tree between Jimmy V’s and the rear of Westerville City Hall, 21 S. State St.

COSI will bring its mobile “Curbside COSI Connects” science exhibit and hands-on demonstrations. Science Street at UWI’s Fourth Fridays is sponsored for 2025 by The Westerville Fund.

Inflatables fun at Generation

As is customary for August, dancers from the Generations Performing Arts Center, 11 W. College Ave., will rest their dancing shoes Aug. 22, taking a one-month hiatus from student performances at Fourth Fridays. But young festivalgoers still are invited to stop by, and play on inflatable toys that will be set up along College Avenue in front of the studio Aug. 22.

Matt Ryan Mobile DJ Entertainment will set up with music and games to entertain at Rotary Park, at the southeast corner of Home and State streets.

Near the same location, catch bike riding demonstrations by members of Westerville BMX.
